I have a small child. He's one so he is not too much into television yet. And that's good (lol). But I am a big fan of kid's movies because for the most part you don't have to worry about seeing inappropriate things. So today I want to share with you the top ten DVDs I can't wait to show Connor.

Top Ten Beauty Products

Let me just preface this by saying I don't wear alot of makeup. I consider myself pretty low maintenance. I can't afford high priced items and I live in a small town. I buy most of my stuff at Wal-Mart and I am okay with that. So consider this a cheapy girl list not a fashionista list. Okay? Okay, and these are in random order.

This is actually from Avon. I love it! It makes my skin look like airbrushed. The only thing I don't like about it is that I don't have an Avon representative.

These are great to keep in your purse in the summer. They take away the shine.

This stuff really does make my lips soooo soft.

I'm a big fan of mineral make up (if I have any make up) and I like this one the best. I haven't tried a whole lot of them but I like that this one is talc free.

Aveeno makes lots of great products. This one seems to help the redness that I have naturally in my face.

I love the way this smells!! I'm not sure if {body acne} (I'm just grossed out saying that) is a problem for everyone but it can be for me. So I love this body wash!!

Wonderful smell here as well!! This scrub seems to help me wake up in the mornings, which I definitely need.

Warning: I haven't tried alot of mascaras. I don't really like mascara. This one works well for what I need. It makes my lashes *look* long and thick. Lovely.

I guess I am *not* the only one who knows this but {green} concealer takes the red out of your face. I have a very ruddy appearance and I have always hated it. Green takes it right out! Then I put the mineral foundation over. It's great.

Heated Eyelash Curler! Love it! Its like a curling iron for your lashes.

A little toy review of favorite things

Between Christmas and his birthday my son has alot of new toys. He and I definately have our favorite. So today I am listing them for Favorite Things Friday. Think of this as kind of a toy review. Okay? Okay

I got this for Connor for Christmas and he really likes it!! He opens and closes that stove door over and over. It makes a creaking noise. It also plays music when you play with certain things and he loves music. I think this was money well spent.

One of his honorary aunts got him this for his birthday. This is the only walk behind toy he will use. I think its because when you press the buttons on his head it plays these catchy tunes. Even I like to hear them (lol)!! The legs also go back together to make it a rider toy. He likes that better but for some reason he can only make it go backwards, but that's not the dino's fault.

This toy is really good for the carseat and the highchair. We put it on his lap and he pretends to drive.

This has been in Connor's crib since before he was born. He always been calmed by it but now he can turn it on himself (the tucan's beak) and he will sway with the music.

I am very proud that this is one of his favorites. He of course, does not get it right now but he loves the the little poeple. He carried around the little baby Jesus for a very long time. Unfortunately, he chewed on him.

He recieved some of these for Christmas and then some more for his birthday. Alot of his toys play music and are loud and stuff, but this one fosters imagination. He likes these to hold and chew on and stuff but hopefully he will be building things before too much longer.

I got this one for his birthday. He has two toys that have one page on them like this, the plastic pages and he loves them. So I knew he would love a whole book of them. He is also a fan of Winnie and it plays music (of course) and that makes Connor love anything. When I was looking at this in Wal-mart he grabbed it out of my hand (haha!!) so I had to sneak it home to save it for his birthday.

And just for clarification I am not a big time blogger, noone gave me anything for saying these nice things. I just love these, so does my kid. So I thought your kid might like them too!!

Top Ten Tuesday

I buy all my shoes at Payless. I have a large foot and they have a pretty good selection where most places don't have anything to fit me at all. The shoes are pretty cheap and they often have sales. Right now they are having a sale that is buy one, get one half off. Everything in the store. That means that if you buy one pair of shoes and a scarf, the scarf will be half off. That rocks right? To my baby on his first birthday

To my baby on his first birthday (it was 1/23/11)

God gave him to me and I pray I never have to give him back. He's got "baby cheetos" on his fingers and bananas on his pants. His teeth are varying lengths and his hair is thin on top and often times it stands up everywhere. When he wakes up in the morning I have drool on my sheets and his cheeks are red with sleep creases. His little sweaty body curls against mine when he's tired. He has one bare foot and one sock and shoe on and it makes him giggle. His bright blue eyes don't miss anything and sweet mouth blows kisses but his breath smells like milk. He regulary steals the remote or any treasure he can find. I have teeth marks on my phone. His tiny fits grab hair and hold on. He holds my heart in his sticky little hand.... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Getting back to myself

I was from a small town in Mississippi so Memphis, TN might as well have been New York, NY. My grandmother would yell out the screen door "Get your fast tale in here. And tell that boy if he can't cut his hair he can't come in this house." They used to tell me my accent was sweet and I would think they sounded just like me but I guess that two hours south made all the difference. I would run in her house in my too short shorts and flip flops. My grandmother used to say that I moved too fast for the dust to even stay on my feet. I was going somewhere. I didn't know where yet but it didn't include that tiny town I came from. The women I saw from there had babies and husbands but no lives. I wanted babies but I wanted to live first and I didn't care if I ever had a husband. I vowed to not become boring just because I had kids. I would travel and do things with a baby at my skirt tail. I would show my kids how to ride camels and elephants and swim in lakes.

Things changed, and I grew up. But I have decided to get back to that girl. With the dreams and the plans. I've decided to get back to myself. I'll let you know how it goes.

Let me start this post by saying a little disclaimer. I love my parents. Very much. Can you hear the "but" in my voice. But I was raised in a way I don't feel is right for my parenting style. My parents used fear and guilt to keep us in line. I don't want my son to fear me. I want him to know that I love him unconditionally and that I am always trying to find the best in him. I want to be a "yes" parent. That leads me to say this. I often wondered if this came up how I would speak on it. I questioned whether direct and firm would be best or nicely and calmly would do the trick. I was given the opportunity to find out my reaction. Let me just say that no hand was raised and noone was harmed but I found out quickly how I reacted. The mama bear voice unfurled inside me. How did I voice my opinion? Loud and clear.

And it turns out that that was the best approach. I feel at peace about it and my opinion is known and my parenting style is no longer a question.

This time last year Nicole thought she couldn't have babies. This year she brings her son home from the hospital.
This time last year Cooper was just coming out of remission. This year he doesn't remember what chemo means.
This time last year my uncle helped my aunt to church on Sunday. This year he brings flowers to her resting place.
This time last year Sister Napper had aches and pains but this year she walks on streets of gold.
This time last year my dad had a steady job. This year he has just come off workman's comp with a new job and new scar down his leg.
This time last year I was a wife but not a mom and this year I am a mom but not a wife.

Sugar Coated Pecans

I usually make these around the holidays but they are a great snack for any time! They are delicious. I call them Crack Nuts. They are so addictive.

1 egg white
1 tablespoon water
1 pound pecan halves
1 cup white sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Grease one baking sheet.

In a mixing bowl, whip together the egg white and water until frothy. In a separate bowl, mix together sugar, salt, and cinnamon.

Add pecans to egg whites, stir to coat the nuts evenly. Remove the nuts, and toss them in the sugar mixture until coated. Spread the nuts out on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake at 250 degrees F (120 degrees C) for 1 hour. Stir every 15 minutes.

Lemon Cool Whip Cookies

I kinda remember seeing these on a blog recently but I cannot verify that or remember who it might have been. I got this recipe from allrecipes.com a while ago and make them for my mom around Christmas since she loves lemon. But if you posted this on your blog shoot me a message and I will give you credit.

Lemon Cool Whip Cookies

1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
2 eggs
1 package lemon cake mix
1/3 cup confectioners' sugar for decoration (I have left this off. Still good)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease baking sheets.

Beat together the whipped topping and eggs together. Add the lemon cake mix and continue to mix. Dough will be thick. Chill for 1 hour (or dough will be sticky)

Drop by teaspoonfuls into a bowl of confectioners' sugar and roll to coat. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 8 minutes.

I recommend a test batch for cooking times. Everytime I make these cookies it seems to take a different amount of time to cook them. They will be a soft cookie but the bottom should be golden brown. And they are delicious!!

Things you should know about me if we're gonna be BFF

I have slight OCD. I check the stove several times before leaving even though I haven't turned it on that day.

I can (and do) love my BFF's kids as much as my own. I spent almost as much on them as my own for Christmas

Ferrero Rocher are my all time favorite candy but I don't buy them for myself because they are so expensive.

My second favorite pleasure is chocolate covered strawberries... YUM!

I often give baked goods as adult presents. I have been told my sugar cookies are awesome!

My pregnancy with Connor was kinda difficult. I find myself talking about it alot because it didn't go as I wanted it to, but I am working on not talking about it so much lol.

Most days I don't wear makeup

Alot of days I put on a necklace, feel silly and take it off. So I have tons of necklaces I never wear.

My best friend lost her dad this year and I felt like I lost my second dad as well. He was a great man and I hope he is watching over me and Connor.

I would chose Dr. Pepper to drink every time.

Men are my weakness. I'm a single mom now so I have alot of crushes. *wink*

I will love anything if it's pink.

I love to carry giant purses with all my secrets inside.

I have no idea how to fold fitted sheets, baby wraps or underwear.

When my husband I seperated an old flame that meant alot to me contacted me about getting back together. I started talking to him and then one day I logged into facebook to see him tagged in HIS wedding pictures. He had gotten married that weekend.

I can't watch ASPCA commericals without crying. And also I want to rescue every furry thing I see but I can't because I don't have room for them.

I love the smell of gas, paint and fingernail polish. When I was pregnant I craved the smells.

I hate milk, macaroni and cheese and cream style corn and will throw up if forced to eat it. Just ask my kindergarten teacher.

5 Things I Love About Christmas

Christmas Spirit - Christmas is the time that we celebrate the birth of Jesus. This makes the whole spirit of Christmastime completely different. I love that. I love the feeling in the air. The feeling of community. The feeling of celebration. It makes the whole world seem magical.

Decorations - I love the glitter, the shine, the bright colors. I love it all. I love the twinkling lights and the glamour. It's like the whole world has an extra bit of glimmer. Love that!

Gatherings - I really enjoy spending time with my extended family. But everyone works alot so the only time we have a day off at the same time is the holidays. I love getting together and being surrounded by family and kids. I love the cooking for others and the teasing and laughs.

Giving/Making others happy - I love giving gifts to poeople. I love seeing the look on their face when they like what you worked so hard to find for them. I love having something and looking at it and being reminded of who gave it to me.

Crafting - Don't we all love crafting? And Christmas gives me all kinds of craft opportunties. I can make ornaments and glittery, shiny things. And food! Christmas gives me plenty of crafty food opportunities.

My favorite holiday recipe

My favorite holiday recipe!! I love going to potlucks or parties and eating food that others make. And there is usually alot of that going on around the holidays. I always discover the best recipes that way!! This is actually the first cookie I remember my mom and I making together when I was a kid.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies or Cake Mix Cookies

1 (18.25 ounce) devil's food cake mix
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
Pour cake mix into a large bowl. Stir in the oil and eggs until well blended. Mix in chocolate chips. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from pan to cool on wire racks.

The best thing about these is that you can change out the cake mix and the chocolate chips and make a totally different but still easy, quick and yummy cookie. We used to make these with Tootie Fruitie Cake mix (do they even make that any more?).

Please excuse my silence for the last week. Some things have went down on the divorce front but I would rather not spoil the last few days leading up to Christmas posting about that stuff. So I'm going to catch up on some Christmas stuff that I have been wanting to post. Starting with: Our Christmas Card!!!

Ornament Party!! YAY!! I really love ornaments. But this year we downsized to a smaller white tree since I am spending this Christmas in my parents house. Here are a couple of my ornaments I love from my white tree.

Nativitiy Parade

I am participating in the Nativity Parade at Crap I've Made (love this blog!!)

I love nativity scenes!!! So I have several. I would love to show you some of them!!!!

This is my newest (and hence my favorite!):

I really love it because of these camels. Aren't they adorable!!

This one I got half price at Wal-Mart two years ago. And then got the stable to go along with it this year half priced. I plan on using it for the 12 Days of Nativity idea I got from another blogger because it has the right amount of pieces and I really love this one. I don't remember which blogger!! This is a very small and inexpensive nativity. No! That is not dirt on my table!! hehe..

My mom gave me this one earlier this Christmas. I love Joseph in this one, alot of nativties leave Joseph out now.

I bought this one several years ago. I eyed it all Christmas and then finally picked it up after Christmas on sale at the Christian Book Store. All the fabric on this look really real even though it is plaster.

Sorry this pic is so blurry!! Its a very tiny, delicate ornament... I have many more nativities on my tree but after trying so hard to get this pic I decided not to pursue them.

I also have this one under the tree wrapped up for Connor's first Christmas. It is now marked down AGAIN and is seriously a steal!!!

This {Meaningful} Christmas

I am learning so much this year about the type of mom and person that I want to be. I am very a person who will accept whatever task is given to me and then feel burdened about how I can't do it so that I get no joy from that task. So part of the decision I have made going into Christmas (my son's first Christmas) is that I will not try to do too much. I will not try to make it fabulous or buy the best presents ever but that I will make it special and enjoy it. This will be the only Christmas I have for 2010. This will be the only FIRST Christmas that I have will Connor. What good will it be if I stress myself out about it so much that I do not savor or enjoy it? But don't get me wrong!! I have some very special gifts in line for my little angel. But I pared down the tree this year, I did not commit myself to the Christmas play as I always do, I did not drag out all the decorations that do not mean something to me and I did drag out the things that mean something and the books that I want to share with Connor. I also am doing activities that are more Christ-centered than Present-Centered. Such as reading the Christmas story as our advent, making out Christmas cards for the nursing home and participating in Operation Christmas Child.

I'm not a scrapbook paper buyer. I never know quite what kind to buy or what matches what and I'm too cheap to buy a whole set. Where was I going with this? Was I just randomly listing my faults? No. I was going to say that I would buy scrapbook paper for this garland.

Our Life's Journey is "doing a series, 25 Days of Christmas. Each day will be a new prompt" Love this kind of thing so I am SO there!

My top 5 are:

1. Scizzors and tape. For some reason I can never find scizzors and tape at my house. So I try to stash a little extra in various places.

2. Caramel Brulee Latte. Starbucks. They only have it at Christmas time. It is delicious!! Especially with a orange cranberry skone... Yum

3. A Calendar. This year I printed a single piece of paper off with December 2010. Hey, it works!!

4. A last-minute-anyone-would-love-it gift. Most of the time it consists of almond bark and my candy molds. Everyone loves chocolate right? Right?

5. A McRib! Another food item that I can only get during the holidays. LOVE!

Magic Reindeer Food Recipe

I mentioned this on my post earlier on Christmas traditions so I thought I would share the recipe with you. This is meant to be spread on your lawn on Christmas Eve for the reindeer to snack on while Santa leaves your presents.

Magic Reindeer Food

1/2 c oats
1/2 c sugar
1/4 c red and/or green sugar crystals (like the ones you sprinkle on cookies or cakes)

It looks really neat if you layer it in a glass jar but its also nice in a ziploc bag.

Here is the poem that goes with it:

Sprinkle on the lawn at night
The moon will make it sparkle bright
As Santa's reindeer fly and roam
This will guide them to your home

Most of the time birds or other animals eat this in the night so that it appears that the reindeer ate it! Which is really magical for children.

Christmas Traditions

One of my favorite blogs Twelve Crafts Til Christmas a three week linky party on traditions that started yesterday (my little one got sick so I missed it yesterday). I am so excited about this!! This is my first year with a little one so I think this is the perfect time to start lots of traditions.

Here is the list (and some links) to traditions I want to start this year. I will probably not be able to incoporate all of these but this is my jumping point.

This is a wonderful explanation of advent. I haven't landed on exactly what I want to do for an advent calender but here are some considerations: Activity Advent Calendar, Grinch Advent Calendar, Simple Advent Calendar and Activities, Muffin Tin Advent and Storybook Advent Calendar. I would also like to incorporate the reading of the Bible and Christmas books.

Ali Edwards has for a long time done this December Daily Album. I will not be with Connor for everyday of December because of spliting weekends with my ex. So I decided to TRY to do an album this year but instead of December Daily I want to do a December Activity. I will take pictures and make layouts for each Christmas/December activity we do in preperation of Christmas.

My first activity for my December Activity will be a box for Operation Christmas Child. This will take place in November because they are due next week. I really want to start this tradition because I want to teach my son to serve others.

We will also: Visit a Christmas light display near here, put up a Christmas tree, give out Christmas cards at a nursing home, bake cookies for Santa, make Gingerbread house out of graham crackers, make Santa out of handprints, make a Christmas card binder, write letter to Santa, visit Santa, make reindeer food, buy special ornaments for each year, celebrate Christmas with our church family (Christmas program and gift exchange and dinner), put wishes for the New Year in the stockings before putting them away, watch Christmas movies, open Christmas pajamas the night before opening gifts and of course opening gifts.

We open gifts a little differently in my family. We do alot of traveling for family on the actual day of Christmas so we usually open presents at an early date. This year since it will be Connor's first Christmas we decided on Christmas Eve.

The last thing is a Christmas Elf of some sort. I haven't researched it very much yet but that is next on my list.

Another Lazy Halloween Craft

I wanted one of those cool vintage-like Halloween decorations that stand up. I looked for a picture to show you but I couldn't find one. But I really didn't know how to even start. Then I was at Wall-mart and I seen this vintage looking Halloween card and I had an idea.

And made this

I forgot to take a picture of the supplies but basically all I did was take the card and tape it to a piece of cardstock and put it in the frame. Tada!!!

I really love it!! And it was virtually painless (cheap, easy, quick) to make!! YAY!

First Birthday Themes

Connor's birthday is coming up in January. I can't believe he will be ONE!! I am so excited but a little sad to see him growing up so fast!! Halloween Specimen Art the lazy way

I got this idea from Tatertots and Jello, her Halloween decorations are all so cute!!! But I thought I could duplicate this in my lazy crafter way. I don't have a paper punch or scrapbook paper (I know its sad right?) So here is what I did:

I went to dollar tree. I got these foam stickers and a picture frame. And this is a piece of cardstock.

And here is the finished product. If you do this please do better than me and mark it off with a ruler. Mine is crooked lol

Halloween Fang Paper Chain

I got this idea from Be Different... Act Normal. She thought this was a garland but it was a treat for kids in a classroom. Well I LOVED the idea so I decided to try it!!!

Here is what you will need. A ruler would also be a good idea but I didn't use one.. that's just how I roll...

I took a piece of purple construction paper (I love purple for Halloween) and folded in half and then cut it into strips and make the links for the paper chain. Then I put two sets of fangs on each piece of paper and then glued the ends of the paper together. I really should have taken more pictures but I hope you guys get the concept.

And here is how it turned out!!! And I really love it!!!

Halloween Candle Holder

This is one of the easier (and cheaper) crafts I have done. I cannot tell you where I got this idea. It has been all over the internet. Just know this was not my orginal idea. Start with these things:

I got everything but my glue gun at dollar tree. I would have picked up enough for two but they only had one of those tall glass candle holders and I didn't like the look of the others they had.

Just glue the tall cylinder candle holder to the other candle holder. I have read that using hot glue to do this does not make it permanent so if you have little ones around keep an eye out for it coming loose. My little one is not mobile yet so it has not been an issue.

Then just pour the skeletons into it. It probably could use another bag here but the skeletons are a little more morbid than I like to go with Halloween. In fact, I might make these purple and sparkly eventually because that would match the rest of my decor LOL.

TADA!!!!! I thought I took a picture of this with the rest of my decorations but I didn't... so imagine that here...

P.S. Please ignore the paper plate.. that is what I rest my glue gun on.. fancy I know..

Do ya'll have left over cereal? We always seem to run out of desire for the cereal before we run out of said cereal. I usually make these with our left over crumbly Cornflakes... they are delicious!!!

Corn Flake Candy

Ingredients
2 cups butterscotch chips
1/4 cup peanut butter
3 1/2 cups cornflakes cereal

Directions
Melt the butterscotch chips over low heat and add peanut butter.
Stir in cornflakes.
Drop on waxed paper and let cool.

We used to make these alot when I was little but I got this recipe from allrecipes.com

Know when to walk away and know when to run...

Last night while I was cleaning I found a framed picture of me and him. I carried it from room to room trying to figure out where it should go. I went in the kitchen and threw it in the trash. Then I went and dug it out. That didn’t feel right. I have heard so many songs lately about standing by your man, hanging on even when it’s tough and never leaving. I much prefer "The Gambler" school of thought, "Know when hold 'em. Know when to walk away and know when to run." A marriage therapist told me once that I should stop threatening to leave. But I wasn’t threatening. I really meant to leave. I just couldn’t follow through.

He would promise it would get better and we would be in the honeymoon phase for a while and I would forget what I found on his computer, or that he quit yet another job or that I was single handedly cleaning our whole habitation. At what point do you stop saying I will always be here and start saying I can’t live this way anymore? Is it violence? Or illegal activity? Adultery? Or realizing that you don’t even know who you are in anymore? Is simply being unhappy a valid reason for divorce? Or is he right that I have no “real” reason to divorce him? I will let you know if I ever figure it out.

And the picture of me and him? I stuck it in a drawer in the baby’s room. I won’t destroy that for him.

Monday - Chicken and Rice ( I use a can of cream of mushroom instead of milk)
Tuesday - Bacon cheeseburger roll-up
Wednesday - Chicken taco caserole
Thursday - Fried Rice
Friday - Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza
Saturday - Eat Out!!
Sunday - Chili and grilled cheese

Renew your spirit, find yourself, rejuvenate your soul.. what do all these buzzwords mean? I know that I am not myself but where do I go exactly to “find myself” again. Where do I go to do again all those things that make me happy? Well, I am starting here. I will be featuring things I am doing to become my self again. This is where I will be documenting “Who I am.” I’m pretty sure it’s going to be messy, and I am going to make lots of mistakes but maybe that is what I need to go back to being genuine again. I used to be brave, and outspoken, unafraid and unabashed. I made mistakes but I laughed about them. Somewhere in being a wife I started striving to be stepford, to be perfect and no longer make faux paus. I used to stay up too late and giggle with my friends. I used read books and cook great meals. I used to sit on my front porch and drink ice tea. Somewhere in being a wife I stopped doing the things that made me happy. I am not saying that I will become immature, and not take care of Connor. I am saying that I don’t have to be boring to be a great mom!!!

The first project I am doing is “Wreck This Journal” by Keri Smith. The theme is "To Create is to Destroy." It is a great exercise. Feel free to read up on it and come back. I’ll wait.

Done? Okay great. Order it. It’s fabulous. I am not putting a time frame on me completing mine but I plan on doing at least something once a week. I will of course start with the tame things to get in the groove. Here is a picture of the pristine condition it arrived to me in. Let’s see what messes we can make, shall we?

Do you remember me? Or what this blog used to be? I can't promise you that it will be the same.. but it will BE!!!

This is the only time that I am going to semi acknowledge my blogging hiatus (unless I change my mind.. which I often do). And I do so now only to update you as to what my life is now. I have now experienced the joy of splitting all the wordly possessions in half. Which I came out mostly with the things that we owe on as the other half has no job. Don’t say you are sorry because I am not, so why should you be. I am now the proud renter of my very own place for the first time in my life… well Connor lives here too but I’m not sure he counts since he is 7 months old and adult conversation is not his strong point. I am also the owner (not proud) of a simese cat that has scratched off the delete, end and some other key-that-i-don’t-know of my laptop and an overhyper jack Russell named Lola, and a hamster (what??). I am not happy about that cat. This was my ex’s bright idea and now he can’t have him where he resides but I cannot find anyone give him away to who I know will be good to him.

I am also now slightly crunchy.. who would have guessed it. I make my own cleaners, I babywear in a wrap that costs more than my wardrobe, I’m teaching connor to sign, I now own about three pairs of shoes and I am “going green.” Please feel free to hang around.. its going to be an interesting ride.

Oh yea.. and I need a new name.. and a new header.. soooo a fresh start!!!

"He's so spoiled"

MB has this new thing that he does. He squeals at the top of his little lungs, an awful scream. We all run into his room and peak over the side of the crib and he GRINS! He seem to find it most enjoyable that we answer his every call.

I have read some about babies online and have discovered that I am an "Attached Parent." The most important part of that for me is that whenever my baby cries I attend to him. I do not practice CIO. I do whatever it takes to make him comfortable and do not expect him to be an adult and not need me at night. I don't expect him to sleep through the night but I am glad when he does. If he cries at night "just" to be comforted I consider that a real need and not him being manipulative or spoiled. I let him sleep with me on occasion but he really likes to sleep on his own. I wear him in a wrap from loveyduds.com. I breastfeed him and would exclusively if that were an option for us. I have pretty much changed my life to put his needs above mine. I have read studies online that state a baby who's parents are attached grows up to be a more confident and independent adult. I have been told by numerous people that I am spoiling him but I will just deal with it if I am.

I cannot tell you if his nature now is because of this or just his personality but he is a dream baby. He sleeps well for the most part. He cries to be in his swing or baby bed. He loves to play on his own. He will let just about anyone hold him although he does seem to prefer me. He doesn't seem to be a "needy" baby at all.

I do not mean for this to be a controversial post so please don't take it that way, I just mean to explain some of the reasons why I parent as I do.

Three Month Letter to MB

Miracle Baby turned 3 months old (YAY!) on April 23. Here is the letter I wrote to him (I write one every month).

Dear Miracle Baby

This has been a big month for you. You have grown a lot, learned a lot, ate a lot and smiled a lot. Your smile has become a welcome and often visitor. You have not decided to turn over all though you act like you can; you are just not interested in trying right now. You find it very funny when I try to teach you to say “Mama” and love to pee on Mimi.

We dedicated you to the Lord and the service was beautiful. You lay very contently in my arms and only fussed when Bro. B took you away to have Bro. H pray for you. You wore a cute outfit with your name on the front and little blue shoes that said “Thank Heaven for little boys.” I got you a little furry, white sheep as a present to your dedication. You seem to like the fur against your tiny hands.

You met a lot of my extended family at Papaw Joe’s birthday party. I began reading books to you every night before we sleep. I am trying to get you to take a lovey with Winnie the Pooh on it but I’m not sure you love it. You seem to like to hold our shirts and papaw’s chest hair better. You are getting very strong and hold your head up most of the time but you also like to head butt us. You are started sitting with assistance and seem to like the recliner. You still love your swing better than anything and often cry to swing in it.

You have also outgrown your newborn clothes and now you are wearing 0-3 month clothes but some of them are too short!!! Your legs seem a million miles long; you are going to be a tall boy.

I went back to work February 23 and my desk is lined with pictures of you and I cry lots of times on my way to work because I miss you. Daddy had been keeping you and sent me lots of pictures while I was at work but Daddy got a job on Monday (yay!) so now Papaw and Mimi are keeping you. They send me pictures and I love seeing your adventures with them. I can’t wait to see how you grow this month!!

The Feet Post

I was not blessed with beautiful, smooth, tiny feet. I have the feet of my mom's grandmother. Hard working feet, farming feet, barefoot and pregnant feet. My feet are long and wide with fat, stubby toes, however, I lurve high heel shoes.

I love the way they make my fat feet into womanly, curved, toe pointing feet. They make me stand taller, push out my chest, raise my chin and take on the world. They also make my feet hurt.. nay! ache!!!

Because of this I often find myself bare foot in places that aren't really appropriate for bare footedness. Work for instance... or the park.. or the library. Somehow being a southern lady makes it acceptable.

But I really love to be barefoot at church, partially because I am usually not alone. Usually there is at least one other lady with feet that are killing her. I love to stand flat (bare) footed where ladies of old have stood, feeling the hallowed ground beneath my feet, letting the power of HIM reverberate through me.
